How to have a pleasant mid-winter vacation.

(One minute read)

Family vacations are supposed to be fun and memorable experiences for all family members. But when children travel with their families, they don’t necessarily leave their grievances and squabbles behind. Instead, they often take their sibling rivalry on vacation, too.
That doesn’t mean that all hope is lost. We, professionals and parents, can always use a variety of strategies to minimize or reduce these challenges. Here is a sample social story that I wrote for one family yesterday. (Names and identifying information were changed to protect the child’s identity.)

A social story is sometimes only the first step that creates the rules and boundaries. The next step is behavioral follow-through, such as rewarding the children for getting along and separating them when they begin to fight. And, of course, consistency is super important!

Please note that the Monday Message will be on break for two weeks and will be back the first Monday in February iy’h.

Have a safe and enjoyable vacation!
