(One minute read)
Yes, even a fun yom tov such as Purim can be overstimulating and overwhelming to children who struggle with sensory overload. What to do?
Here is a social story you can use (or modify as necessary) with your child.
What do you do now? Read the social story a couple of times during the day to your child. Then, praise and reward her for dealing with the sensory overload in a green manner. For example, you can say, “I know it was super noisy before when a group of boys walked in with their mega speakers and loud music. And I saw that you went into the kitchen and took a drink so that you could stay calm. Good for you!”
Chag Purim Sameach!
