Slouching
Sitting Nicely
Question:
What do you do about a kid who is slouching in his seat at school? He does the same during homework and dinner…
Answer:
Fortunately, the solution is VERY SIMPLE!
Here are the SIX STEPS we use to teach any behavior or social skill.
- Label: SLOUCHING vs. SITTING NICELY
- Picture: Draw a picture, use the picture cards above, or better yet, snap a picture of your child or student doing both the red AND green behaviors. Print it and hang it up on the red and green wall (at home or in the classroom).
- Model: The teacher/therapist/parent models both the red and green behaviors.
- Practice: The child takes a turn to show how to slouch and sit nicely.
- Reinforce: Reward/praise the child for sitting nicely and doing the green.
- Correct: Use a correction/consequence/punishment if the child slouches.
I know it’s sounds almost too simple, but it REALLY WORKS!
Have an awesome week!
