Kids fighting a lot?

(1-minute read)

Fighting
Getting Along

One of the cool things about teaching social skills is the idea that any problematic “Red” behavior you encounter can be modified by teaching a “Green” better alternative. You don’t have to feel stuck that a child who CURRENTLY has social difficulties will FOREVER have social problems. It doesn’t have to be that way!

Here are some examples:

If the child is talking too loudly, teach him to talk softly.

If the child is grabbing things, teach him to ask permission.

If the child interrupts others, teach him to wait patiently.

If the child is asking you the same question 100 times, teach him to ask once.

If the child is calling people names, teach her to care about the feelings of others.

If the child is making a mess, teach her to keep things clean and neat.

If the child is being wild and silly, teach her to be calm and serious.

If the child is whiny, teach her to use a pleasant voice.

If the child is screaming, teach her to use a medium voice.

If the child hits kids, teach her to have calm hands.

If the child is fighting with others, teach her to negotiate.

Did you know that we have a fantastic set of negotiation cards to help kids learn to stop fighting and to compromise instead??

We have sets in Yiddish, English, boys only, girls only, and mixed boys and girls.
